Jonathan Almond

Endorsements: Former Cabarrus County Representative Larry Pittman

Why did you decide to run for this office?

The district maps were redrawn and my current representative does not represent my principles or values. God kept putting it on my heart to run, so I am being obedient. Now is the time to fight for the things we love. I love my community and I want to fight for the people in my district.

What are your top 3 priorities for serving in this office?
  1. Stop government overreach

  2. Fiscal Responsibility

  3. Lower Taxes

What experience/qualities make you a good choice for this office?

My work profession is in accounting and finance. I was the controller of a restaurant management group that operated 11 locations. I was there during the unprecedented times of Covid and the recent inflation. I was apart of navigating cash flow as we dealt with inflated food cost and labor shortages.
I am a fighter for what the people of my community. During the covid craziness, I fought against the crazy mandates from the state and local governments.

Holly Edwards

Endorsements: Representative Kristin Baker M.D. and Cabarrus County Sheriff Van Shaw

Why did you decide to run for this office?

I want to take my knowledge and experience in representing our community, supporting jobs and working with local and state leaders to Raleigh and to continue to be a pro-active voice and advocate for the priorities of our citizens. Having served our community being appointed to various boards and working with our volunteer organizations for over 30 years, being a local small business owner in the construction industry for over 25 years (making payroll and providing jobs), and as a prior elected official (elected to the Cabarrus County Board of Education for 12 years and 5 years as board chair), I will be able to hit the ground running.

What are your top 3 priorities for serving in this office?
  1. Jobs/Economy – Economic Development is like a blood line for our communities and our state. We must continue to create and grow good -paying jobs, recruit new businesses and strengthen our small businesses. Continuing to invest in our work force is a key component to helping families, our local communities and our state continue to thrive and be successful. I would like to see our high wealth vs. low wealth county allocations re-evaluated.

  2. Education – Every child deserves a quality education, and laws and policies should not be pushed down from the federal level. Also, we must increase teacher pay at the state level in order to continue to recruit quality educators for our classrooms. I would like to see the teacher evaluations and certified staff vs non-certified staff formulas re-formulated.

  3. Healthcare – Providing healthcare is one of the greatest challenges for businesses and for some individuals, without job coverage, to obtain on their own, due to cost. Affordable insurance that provides quality healthcare is an investment North Carolina must see as a return on the investment in our work force and our families. I would like to see, on the state level, greater mandates on maximums for costs of services, out-of-pocket expenses and deductibles for insurance companies. Procedures and prescriptions are in many cases unaffordable, preventing some to receive a needed or required treatment.
What experience/qualities make you a good choice for this office?

As stated in first question/response, “Having served our community being appointed to various boards and working with our volunteer organizations for over 30 years, being a local small business owner in the construction industry for over 25 years (making payroll and providing jobs), and as a prior elected official (elected to the Cabarrus County Board of Education for 12 years and 5 years as board chair), I will be able to hit the ground running.” Also, I am a problem-solver, critical thinker and understands and appreciates the power of being a good communicator.
