Why did you decide to run for this office?

After serving in a position of leadership (Chair of the state professional licensing board for attorneys–NCBLE), I realized that I wanted to be able to serve my community in a meaningful way. When one of our District Court judges had to retire due to mandatory age limitations, I became aware of the vacancy and decided it would be a good way to be involved in the community.

What are your top 3 priorities for serving in this office?

First priority is to know and understand the law and its recent developments and apply it fairly to all litigants. The law is written by the legislature to keep our citizens safe. It is only fair to law abiding citizens that a judge upholds the spirit and the letter of the law.

Second is to advance professionalism in our local bar and courthouse in an effort to make justice more efficient and a positive experience for the public.

Third is to make the proceedings over which I would have any authority as an officer of the court ones in which all parties feel like they are really being heard by the Court.

What experience/qualities make you a good choice for this office?

Having served as a Guardian Ad Litem in Cabarrus County for minors and adults in need of an advocate in court has made me realize I am good at determining and recommending the best interests of the person whose interests I am representing. I am also a former teacher, a current CPA, and served as Chair of a statewide professional licensing board (attorneys, naturally). These were all unique experiences that would help with my ability to determine the facts in a case and render a fair decision.

Why did you decide to run for this office?

I have been a judge for a total of 14 years. I am running for re-election for the seat I currently hold. I began practicing law in Cabarrus County in 1989. While I enjoyed private practice, being a judge has been a rewarding experience which I am humbled and honored to do each day.

What are your top 3 priorities for serving in this office?

The priority every day is to do justice within the bounds of the law as provided in the United States and North Carolina Constitutions along with the corresponding statutes.

What experience/qualities make you a good choice for this office?

As stated above, I began practicing law in 1989 in Cabarrus County. I have 21 years of experience in private practice and am in my 14th year as a District Court Judge. During my private practice I became a certified mediator through the N.C. Dispute Resolution Commission.
